Classroom Activity using QR Codes

Hello!  Below I have attached my Underground Railroad Power Point along with the QR Codes used in my Power Point for my classroom activity.
I have chose to create an activity on the Underground Railroad.  In a class that I am taking, I am creating a 10 day unit on the Underground Railroad for 4th grade.  In my Power Point, I have 10 slides of QR Codes that students can use to learn about the Underground Railroad.  The QR Codes link to websites that show videos, have activities for the students, and fun facts and reading on the important people, places, and objects that took place in the Underground Railroad.  I hope you enjoy!

A few neat idea's to use in the classroom using Post-its!! I hope you enjoy!

Here are two idea's you can use for printed Post-its.  For an example, I would give my students each one of the following post-its and have them respond to the question.  This can be used in any subject area.  I personally thought of reading time whether it be individual or group reading.  This is a great way to help students understand their reading.

                                           "Word of the Day"

I love the idea of having a "word of the day".  Great idea to use for bell work. Give your students a specific word of the day. Have these post its on their desks, they will write in the word of the day which will be given to them, then they will define it writing their answers on their post it. Collect the post its.

"Dear Friend"

This is an idea I had found on the internet and I absolutely love this idea! It’s always good to teach the importance of kindness! With these “dear friend” sticky notes you can, at the end of the day, have each student pick a person whom they would like to share a nice note to. These notes can be simple such as “Thank you for reading with me”, “I like your shirt”, or “You are a good friend”. Shows students acts of kindness and how important it feels to have someone say something nice about you.

"Seating Arrangement"
Such a neat way to arrange seating in your classroom. All you need to do is make this classroom roster once and save it! Tape these student name sticky notes on their desks. Once its time for a new seating arrangement, print them off change up the seating!

"Ice Breaker"
For smaller post its: Ice breaker activity. Find historical people (that your grade level students will know) and print their picture on a small post it. Post a post it on a student's back. The other student has to guess who is the famous person that is listed on the post it without looking. The other student is given clues to help them guess.

Okay, Last one!

"Friendly Reminder"

Just a fun way to stick a friend reminder from the teacher to the student on their desks, homework, planners, etc.

Classroom Management Tools

I have checked the 13 great teacher-friendly resources provided to me in module 7.  The first application I chose to mention and which caught my attentions is “Remind”.  This application is easy to sign up for all I had to do was give my name and email.  Looking through this application I find it extremely helpful and easy to use.  Very organized and useful, I am able to have different categories or “classes” that I can send reminders or alerts to.  It gives me a personal code to send to parents for that specific class.  Also, families can send me a message.
I find this application extremely useful as well as helpful in my future classroom.  With technology advancing in today’s world, I won’t be surprised to see the majority of my students with cellphones.  I would use this application for my students as well.  Both families and students can stay updated and in contact with me 24/7.  Although it is “normal” to see many people with cellphones and what have you, as educators we must keep in mind not everyone will have access to technology and/or Internet.  So that being said, I would use this application keeping in mind that it will be an optional choice.
The next application that struck my attention is “Go Soap Box”.  Signing up was fast and simple.  Getting to know this site, I saw how awesome this application would be in the classroom.  Students don’t need to sign up or make an account unless the teacher wants them too, and then there will be a code the teacher will give the student.  This application gives a variety of great tools to use, which will get all of your students involved and participating.  The one thing I found interesting was that the student may work “anonymously”.  Also, the “confusion barometer” is a great way to see just how many students don’t understand what they need to know.  This application really gets statistics involved!  You can have a classroom poll started.  I can already think of 50 different ways this can be used!  This application is great when it comes to setting up a quick quiz and having students complete it.  This application is just an all around great educational source for teachers.  Great way to get your students to participate and be engaged in the classroom!

Index Cards

The first index card is an example of using index cards for spelling words.  Students will fill out the index cards and submit them.
The second index card is an example of “The End of the Week” memory card.  This is a neat idea of using index cards for students to fill out their best classroom memory at the end of each week.  Save these! Put together a small index card book (keepsake) of all their memories for them to keep!
